High school volleyball roundup: Cougars, Falcons win

CHINA GROVE — Carson’s volleyball team breezed to a 25-11, 25-6 and 25-10 sweep of Concord in South Piedmont Conference action.

The Cougars (19-5, 13-1) are tied for first and are eighth in the 3A West RPI rankings.

Tasean Perkins had 10 kills for the Cougars.

Piper Thonen had five aces. Kaylee Thonen led in digs with eight. Hailey Moose had 27 assists.

CONCORD — West Rowan won 25-21, 25-14 and 25-21 in a South Piedmont Conference match at Central Cabarrus.

The Falcons (9-9, 9-6) are fifth in the SPC and are 26th in the 3A West RPI rankings.

Maddie Sides had 13 kills for the Falcons. Skyy Ruben had nine, while Lydia Wilson had seven.

Ruben had four blocks.

Sides also led in digs with 22. Sophia Blackledge had 17, Wilson had 14, and Lucy McLean Shelton had 11.

Neely Hiatt had 21 assists. Brinley Hiatt had 18.

TYRO — South Rowan was swept by West Davidson in Tyro in a non-conference matchup. The Green Dragons beat the Raiders 25-23, 25-22 and 25-22.

South (14-6) is 17th in the 3A West RPI rankings and is in some danger of starting the first round of the state playoffs on the road.

Meredith Faw had eight kills for the Raiders. Clancy Steet and Meghan Eagle had six each.

Street had three aces. Danica Krieg had two blocks.

Campbell Withers led in digs with 27. Faw had 11, while Eagle had 10.

Eagle has 12 assists. Raegan Shell had 10.

South is third in the SPC standings but has a tough finish to the regular season next week against SPC co-leaders Carson and Lake Norman Charter.

West Davidson got nine kills each from Alex Hester and Emoree Taylor.

The Green Dragons (16-3) are 14th in the 2A West rankings.
