DENTON — Salisbury quarterback Hank Webb is not a conventional passer, as he slings the ball like a baseball pitcher.

But it’s hard to quibble with great results, and Webb has pinpoint accuracy. It’s like he’s handing the ball to receivers who are 30 yards downfield.

Webb threw for 189 yards and racked up four more touchdown passes on Friday, bringing his season total to 18, and he did it before halftime. The Hornets (6-1, 3-0) led the overmatched South Davidson Wildcats 43-0 at the break and cruised 64-0 in Central Carolina Conference action.

Salisbury’s defense did more than its share. The first half was played on the South Davidson end of the field, as the Hornets came up with two interceptions and a fumble recovery. The Hornets forced two more turnovers in the second half.

Torian Brown scored a defensive touchdown when he picked up a fumble near the South Davidson 10-yard line and took it in. Keial Matthews had a fumble recovery. Bryce Dalton, Emmanuel Asare and Bennie Howard had interceptions

Salisbury was stopped on one early possession and settled for a 15-0 lead after a quarter, but the Hornets had plenty of one-play drives during a dominant, 28-point second quarter.

The Hornets had too many penalties and had a few touchdowns called back, but it was a reasonably focused effort in a game the Hornets knew they’d win easily. South Davidson (0-7, 0-3) has been outscored 254-13 the last four weeks.

Webb had no trouble evading South Davidson’s pass rush and threw two TDs to Jay’lin Johnson and one each to Josh Allen and Macari House. Webb’s TD passes covered 30, 51, 17 and 20 yards.

Jamantay Cox had two rushing TDs for the Hornets, while Dar’Rius Jefferies and Nemo Mason got one each. Salisbury had 147 rushing yards by committee, with Jason Sparger getting 52 on three carries.

Webb kicked eight PATs. He had a 2-point conversion run after Salisbury’s first touchdown.

South Davidson had zero passing yards. The Hornets buried the Wildcats for minus-42 rushing yards.

Salisbury takes on East Davidson next before an exciting finish to the regular season against Lexington and North Rowan. Salisbury’s open week comes very late, between the Lexington and North Rowan games.
