High school golf: East 2nd, South 3rd in SPC

SALISBURY — Lake Norman Charter’s powerful girls golf team shot 238 and cruised to victory in Monday’s 18-hole South Piedmont Conference Tournament held at Rolling Hills.

Ava Palmer and Caitlyn Frisch shot 77s to lead the Knights. They finished one shot ahead of East Rowan’s Jaelyn Earnhardt, who shot a career-best 78 for 18 holes and took third.

The third scorer for Lake Norman Charter was Seehe Veera, who shot 84 and tied Northwest Cabarrus’ Carson Verburg for fourth place.

East shot 256, 18 shots behind the Knights, but 25 shots ahead of South Rowan in the contest for second place.

Northwest Cabarrus was fourth in the team scoring, with Carson fifth.

Rowan County champ Kaley Pfister shot 87 for sixth place. East’s third scorer was Izzy Stepp, who shot 91 for seventh.

South’s top scorers were Sara Culbert (92) and Ava Blume (92). They tied for eighth. Margo Maples (99) tied for 11th.

Other Rowan girls in the top 20 were East’s Cailey Ludwick (99), South’s RaElla Smokstad (102), Carson’s Ava Catlett (106), East’s Ava Alderman (107), West Rowan’s Marley Rimmer (110) and Carson’s Emma Carpenter (113).

The All-South Piedmont Conference team, based on the season, was headed by Frisch, the Player of the Year.

The all-conference team also includes Earnhardt, Pfister, Blume, Palmer, Veera and Verburg.
