SALISBURY — Mayor Karen Alexander formally announced a reduction in her availability on Monday as she focuses on personal health matters following a recent cancer diagnosis.

“While limiting public engagements, she will continue overseeing essential mayoral responsibilities,” a release from the city said.

Alexander expressed her gratitude to Mayor Pro Tem Tamara Sheffield and her fellow city council members for their support to ensure continued leadership during her recovery.

“Serving Salisbury is one of the greatest honors of my life,” Alexander said in the release. “I trust in our council and city leadership team to continue advancing our key projects and initiatives.”

She encourages the community to stay united and support one another. The city asks that residents keep Alexander and her family in their thoughts and prayers.
