SALISBURY — Henderson Independent High School is getting into the spirit this season with a Fall Festival on Friday, with plans to screen a student-produced short film that recently won an award at a Charlotte film festival.
The short film, “The Horror of Trauma,” received the award for best script at the Mad Monster Film Festival earlier this year. It will be shown on Friday at the Salisbury-based school for visitors to the Fall Festival.
“We are going to start showing he film around 7:30 p.m.,” Assistant Principal Mallory Whitley said.
In addition to the film screening, there will be opportunities to buy some of the students’ artwork.
“We want the students to feel the support of the community for what they are doing and how hard they are working,” Whitley said. “We want them to see our students and our school.”
The school will be adorned with fall decorations and the festival will feature several activities for young and old.
“Our child development class will have some games, face painting and cookie decorating,” Whitley said. “There will be kid-friendly games and they can play the games to earn a price from our prize pumpkin patch.”
There will be a mobile video game unit on site and some other activities besides the games that the group is working on.
“We have a lot of different people from the community bringing activity or information and some are doing food,” Whitley said. “We will hopefully have some hot dogs, cotton candy and popcorn, too.”
Whitley said that they are hoping to have several members of the community turn out for the event, so they are making admission free and inviting everybody.
“It is open to anybody and everything is free,” Whitley said. “We really want the community to come.”
The festival starts at 6 p.m. Henderson Independent School is located at 1215 N. Main St., Salisbury.
