High school volleyball: Milestone for Yang, but Hornets fall to WD

TYRO — Salisbury senior setter Ashley Yang added 1,000 digs to her list of accomplishments with the Hornets’ volleyball program, but she reached the milestone in a loss.

West Davidson beat Salisbury 25-15, 21-25, 25-15 and 25-14 in Wednesday’s Central Carolina Conference Tournament championship game played on West Davidson’s Crim Court.

The second-seeded Hornets (13-8) pulled out the second set with three late kills and an ace by Damayi Acevedo, but West Davidson (20-4) took the momentum back from the outset in the third set and pounded the Hornets during the final two sets.

Yang had five kills, 33 digs and 16 assists. She surpassed 2,000 assists earlier this season.

Ava Morris had eight kills and 12 digs. Acevedo had six kills and nine digs.

Addie Myers had 13 digs. Carmen McQueen had four blocks. Kendall Henderson had eight kills Kyliah Pearson-Hasty had seven digs.

West Davidson and Salisbury will move on to the 2A playoffs.

South Davidson was the split league’s top 1A team and will be in the 1A playoffs.

Seeds and pairings will be announced on Oct. 20. The first round is scheduled for Oct. 22.
