Salisbury Police make arrests following narcotics operation

SALISBURY — Ten individuals have been arrested by Salisbury police following a long-term vice and narcotics operation, according to a release from the department.

The arrests are the result of an extensive investigation carried out over the summer in response to neighborhood complaints regarding suspected drug activity.

Vice/narcotics detectives focused their efforts on addressing community concerns, meticulously investigating several alleged drug operations and drug houses that had been identified through community input, investigative measures, and surveillance.

As part of their thorough investigations, detectives conducted a series of controlled drug purchases from individuals involved in these illegal activities. The operation led to the following results:

• Multiple arrests of individuals involved in the sale and distribution of illegal narcotics.
• Multiple warrants were obtained for individuals involved in the sale and distribution of illegal narcotics.
The seizure of various illicit drugs, including but not limited to:
• Crack cocaine-53.1 grams
• Methamphetamine-1.5 grams
• Fentanyl: 125.4 grams

• The confiscation of cash, firearms and other paraphernalia associated with drug distribution.

Police Chief Patrick “PJ” Smith expressed the department’s continued commitment to addressing both neighborhood concerns and the broader issue of illegal narcotics in the community.

“The scourge of illegal drugs impacts every facet of our community, and we remain unwavering in our commitment to disrupting the drug trade,” Smith said. “This operation is a direct response to the concerns of our residents, and it reflects our dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of all who call Salisbury home. We will continue to collaborate with the community to root out illegal activity and improve the quality of life in our city.”

The following people were arrested:

• Dustin Denard Davis was arrested Oct. 17 and charged with four counts of felony sale of controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school, four counts of felony sell/deliver schedule II controlled substance, and four counts of felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell or distribute schedule II controlled substance. Police seized 4.5 grams of crack cocaine and a 9mm handgun. He was given a bond of $60,000.

• James “Jimmy” Simmons Jr. was arrested Oct. 17 and charged with felony sell/deliver schedule II controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor resist/delay/obstruct an officer. He was given a bond of $40,000.

• Amy Leigh Hollar was arrested Oct. 17 and charged with felony sale/deliver schedule II controlled substance and felony possession with intent to manufacture sell or deliver schedule II controlled substance. She was given a $15,000 bond.

• Jimmy Lewis Williams Sr. was arrested Oct. 17 and charged with six counts of felony sell/deliver schedule II controlled substance and one count of felony maintaining a dwelling for controlled substance. Police seized 20.2 grams of crack cocaine. He was given a $50,000 bond.

• Mickeal Anthony Swann was arrested Oct. 18 and charged with felony trafficking in heroin/opium, felony possession of schedule II controlled substance, three counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a schedule II controlled substance, felony possession of cocaine, felony maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances, felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Police seized 25.6 grams of crack cocaine, 5.1 grams of fentanyl, a Glock 9mm handgun, $5,436 in cash, and he was given a bond of $1,075,000.

The following individuals have warrants for their arrest:

• Shonquaves Markese Copeland is wanted for three counts of felony sell/deliver schedule II controlled substance, three counts of felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver schedule II controlled substance and three counts of felony sale of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school.

• James Edward Turner is wanted for six counts of felony sale/deliver schedule II controlled substance and four counts of felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver schedule II controlled substance.

• Averi Tyrrell Barnes is wanted for two counts of felony sell/deliver schedule II controlled substance, two counts of felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver schedule II controlled substance and two counts of felony sale of controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school.

• Jason Daniel Setzer is wanted for two counts of felony sell/deliver of schedule II controlled substance and two counts of felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver schedule II controlled substance.

• Jeremy Steven Martin is wanted for felony sale/deliver of schedule II controlled substance, two counts of felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver schedule II controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanor simple possession of schedule IV controlled substance, and felony possession of a firearm.
