ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia Bulldog linebacker Jalon Walker and defensive lineman Mykel Williams have earned Southeastern Conference weekly honors following Georgia’s road win over No. 1 Texas.
Walker, a native of Salisbury, was named the Co-Defensive Player of the Week while Williams, a native of Columbus, Ga., shared the Co-Defensive Lineman of the Week honor following the 30-15 rout of the Longhorns.
Walker exploded for three sacks for a loss of 23 yards as part of his seven tackles in Texas’ continued introduction to the SEC. He also recovered a fumble and had seven quarterback pressures on a defense that kept the Longhorns to 29 yards rushing. Walker helped make UGA only the second team in the last 20 years with seven sacks against the AP No. 1 team.
Williams tallied three tackles, including two sacks, and forced a fumble that was recovered by the Bulldogs. He was a key part of a Georgia defensive unit that forced the Longhorns to go 2-of-15 on third downs.
Following an off week this Saturday, No. 2 Georgia (6-1, 4-1 SEC) travels to Jacksonville, Fla., to play Florida (4-3, 2-2) on Nov. 2. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ABC will televise the matchup.
