High school girls cross country: South’s Julian leads 3 Rowan state qualifiers

SALISBURY — The family bar has been set very high, but South Rowan freshman Hope Julian may turn out to be the best Julian of all.

She ran 20:00 for second place in Saturday’s 3A Midwest Regional at Salisbury Community Park.

Central Davidson’s Jillian Parks won the regional in 19:35.

The four qualifying teams for the state were Lake Norman Charter (47), Piedmont (116),  Oak Grove (119) and Central Davidson (131).

East Rowan (155) took sixth, with Carson (177) seventh and South Rowan (181) eighth.

The top seven individuals not on the four qualifying teams also move on to the 3A State Championships at Ivey Redmon Park in Kernersville.  Joining Julian will be East Rowan’s Sadie Featherstone (8th in 21:29) and Carson’s Emily Landaverde (15th, 22:14).

Other Rowan girls in the top 30 were Carson’s Kara Crotts (22nd), East’s Iyanna Lynch Berry (23rd), South’s Madalynn Gulledge (24th) and East’s Morgan Efird (29th).
