SALISBURY — West Rowan’s boys cross country team will run in Saturday’s 3A State Championships in Kernersville.

West finished fifth in Saturday’s 3A Midwest Regional at Salisbury Community Park with a score of 165.

Four teams from each regional advance to the state meet — or the top 25 percent of the teams make it —  whichever number is greater.

Nineteen teams posted team scores in the 3A Midwest Regional. The top 25 percent would be 4.75 teams. They rounded up the fraction, so West qualified as the fifth team.

West coach Scott Foster explained Monday that the Falcons were announced as a regional qualifier on Saturday, but then they were left off the NCHSAA’s list of qualifying teams. He emailed the NCHSAA and the Falcons are good to go on Saturday.

West’s top five runners on Saturday were Luke Henson (17th, 17:52), Jonathan Medinaa (25th, 18:06), Jayden Romero (39th, 18:44), Wayne Hall (41st, 18:49) and Rafael Quintero (46th, 19:02).

The sixth and seventh runners for West were Jaden Still and Issac McLaughlin.
