SOUTHERN PINES — East Rowan’s Kaley Pfister, Jaelyn Earnhardt and Cailey Ludwig and South Rowan’s Ava Blume competed in the 3A State Championships at Longleaf on Monday and Tuesday.
“That’s the ultimate goal,” East coach Tinsley Merrell said.
Steady county champ Pfister shot 89-90 — 179 and tied for 29th.
Earnhardt had a great day on Monday and shot 86-94 — 180 to finish 31st. She started on the back nine on Monday and had a four-hole stretch of birdie-par-par-birdie.
East’s Cailey Ludwig shot 104-112 — 216 and was 83rd.
Ludwig’s surprise performance in the regional at Cramer Mountain — she led the Mustangs that day — made it possible for East to get three individual qualifiers to the state event. East was able to post a team score and was 11th in the team scoring with 279-296 — 575.
South Rowan’s Ava Blue shot back-to-back 98s and tied for 65th at 196.
South Point posted a team score of 510, one shot better than Lake Norman Charter. Southern Alamance finished third with a score of 518.
