High school cross country: State championships set for Saturday

SALISBURY — Salisbury’s Samuel Fatovic will be in the first race at Saturday’s cross country state meet at Kernersville’s Ivey Redmon Park.

Fatovic had a strong run in the 2A Midwest Regional in Dobson and placed fourth.

The 2A boys race will start Saturday’s championship action at 9 a.m.

The 3A boys race is at 2:40 p.m.

Carson’s Jorge Clemente-Garcia and Eric Gillis were 1-2 in the 3A Midwest Regional and will be runners to watch.

West qualified its team as a top-25 percent finisher in the regional. Luke Henson leads the Falcons.

South’s Ethan Overby was an individual qualifier.

The 3A girls race is at 4 p.m.

South Rowan freshman Hope Julian, runner-up in the 3A Midwest Regional, will be runner to watch.

East Rowan’s Sadie Featherstone and Carson’s Emily Landaverde were individual qualifiers.
