College men’s basketball: Blue Bears off to 2-0 start

INSTITUTE, W. Va. — Jamal Cannady scored 21 points to lead Livingstone’s men’s basketball team to a 63-60 win against Davis & Elkins on Saturday.

The Blue Bears went 2-0 in the Earl Lloyd Classic hosted by West Virginia State to start the season.

Cannady shot 8-for-16. He’s a transfer who was a big scorer at Bryn Athyn, a small college in Pennsylvania, and at Division II  Trevecca Nazarene in Tennessee.

Paul Tako also had a strong game for the Blue Bears with 10 points and nine rebounds.

James Nipper and Canandy made key free throws down the stretch as Livingstone held off the Senators. Davis & Elkins (1-1) beat J.C. Smith on Friday.

Sam Rollie scored 23 points and made four 3-pointers for Davis & Ekins, but missed a 3-pointer to tie at the end, and Cannady secured the rebound.
