SALISBURY — Jason Wilson will shed his interim role and officially become the director of Salisbury-Rowan Utilities after being chosen by Salisbury officials earlier this week.

Wilson originally joined the city as a utilities engineer in 2008, before progressing to utilities engineering manager in 2009 and then utilities director in 2019.

“I am deeply honored to be named director of Salisbury-Rowan Utilities. We have an excellent team who works hard every day to build on SRU’s reputation for reliability and innovation. Moving forward, I’m excited to expand our efforts on key capital improvement projects that will ensure we are well positioned for the region’s future growth. We remain committed to supporting Rowan County’s economic development through right-sized, resilient infrastructure,” said Wilson in a release from the city.

As director, Wilson will oversee the department’s operations, including providing water and wastewater services for over 56,000 customers across Rowan County. He will manage strategic planning, oversee utilities construction and help guide a team of more than 80 SRU personnel.

“Jason’s expertise and experience make him an excellent fit for this role. He’s demonstrated outstanding leadership and dedication to the community, and I am confident he will guide SRU with vision and strength as we continue to enhance our water and wastewater services for both residents and businesses,” said Salisbury City Manager Jim Greene Jr.

Wilson holds a bachelor’s degree in biological and agricultural engineering from North Carolina State University and obtained his professional engineer license in 2003. He is also a graduate of the UNC-School of Government’s Municipal and County Administration program, Leadership Rowan, and the Salisbury City Manager’s Leadership Academy. He is also an active member of the American Water Works Association and the North Carolina Rural Water Association.
