College women’s basketball: Wilkerson’s bucket beats Blue Bears

BLUEFIELD, W. Va. — Livingstone College’s women’s basketball team lost 72-71 to Clarion on Sunday.

Hannah Wilkerson, who played her high school ball a few miles from Livingstone at North Rowan, scored on a driving bucket as time expired to beat the Blue Bears (0-2) at Ned Shott Gym.

Wilkerson, who had 15 points, six rebounds and three assists off the bench for Clarion, also made a big 3-pointer with 26 seconds left.

It was a game of runs. Clarion had a great third quarter. Livingstone came back and took the lead in the fourth quarter.

Livingstone (0-2) got another dominant game from Morgan Kelson, who had 26 points and 15 rebounds, but Clarion was able to win the contest from the 3-point line. Clarion (1-1) made 10 3-pointers. Livingstone made zero.

Rachel Cherrington made a free throw to give the Blue Bears a 71-70 lead with five seconds left, but she missed her second attempt. Clarion rebounded, and Wilkerson made the clutch shot.
