RALEIGH — A former Rowan County insurance agent is facing both felony and misdemeanor charges, according to N.C. Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey.
Lori Ann Crisp, 56, of Kannapolis, was charged with forgery, embezzlement and obtaining property by false pretense, all felonies. She was also charged with misdemeanor counts of making a false statement to a law enforcement officer and acting as an insurance producer without a license.
Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division say Crisp allegedly obtained $2,925 from a client for a homeowners’ and automobile policy without transferring the payment to the insurance policy.
The offenses occurred between August 2023 and September 2024. Crisp was served with a criminal summons in September. The Department of Insurance is continuing its investigation.
Causey encourages North Carolinians to help keep insurance premiums low by reporting suspicious activity.
“White collar crimes like this are not victimless crimes,” Causey said. “It hits all of us in the pocket through higher premiums.”
If anyone suspects insurance fraud or other white-collar crimes, report it. Fraud can be reported anonymously by calling the NC Department of Insurance Criminal Investigations Division at 919-807-6840 or toll free from anywhere in North Carolina at 888-680-7684.
