Preparing for special events takes time and effort, and the Holiday 2024 issue of Salisbury the Magazine tells the stories of several of those occasions and those who have helped them to become a reality.
The cover story, titled “Generations of Christmas Memories: Steve and Lina Drinkard’s decorations have ties to the past” by Maggie Blackwell and photos by Sean Meyers shares how, with the help of a close friend, they have filled their home with Christmas decorations of the past, bringing back those sweet memories. Plus they have created a space for new memories, with each piece also sharing a special story.
Susan Shinn Turner’s story “Unsung Heroes: Altar guild members work behind the scenes to beautify local altars” tells of the work of those guild members who prepare the church altars for worship services as well as special events including weddings, funerals, communions, holidays and other church events. Submitted photos show some of the work and people who make it happen.
Getting ready for an art exhibit such as the one shared about in Maggie Blackwell’s story, “Once-In-A Lifetime exhibit: Waterworks hosts Robertson art collection of world-renowned masters” takes lots of preparation by many. The story tells of this exhibit and how it came to Salisibury with photos by Sean Meyers following students and adults at the gallery getting a glimpse of this collection of masterpieces.
Don’t miss the recurring features that are ready to be unwrapped inside this holiday issue including Blackwell’s editor’s letter titled ‘Tis the season, the Rowan Original by Virginia Robertson entitled “Santa’s Mailbox on the Square,” Bookish by Brenda Zimmerman titled “The World According to Color,” and lots of photos including multiple of a Paint the Pavement event and the annual Carolina Artists Expo, as well as a Local Colors watercolor work titled “Autumn Past” by Luann Nordine and two “Through the Lens” features, one by Andy Mooney, capturing the image of a comet and one by David Powell of a balloon fiesta in Albuquerque.
