KANNAPOLIS — A woman has been charged with the murder of her niece following the child’s autopsy results.
Kannapolis police responded to an emergency call on Old Rivers Road on Tuesday night, Nov. 19, and on arrival, discovered a four-year-old child had died.
Vanity Rubystine Williams, 31, the child’s aunt, was originally arrested Nov. 20 in connection with the death and charged with one count of felony child abuse. The child had been in Williams’ home, under her care, since October, and was in her care the night she died, according to police. Williams was taken into custody and transferred to the Cabarrus County jail.
After receiving the preliminary autopsy results on Friday, Nov. 23 from the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office, and in consultation with the Cabarrus County District Attorney’s Office, Willams was also charged with first degree murder in the death of the child.
No further details were released about the case, but Williams is scheduled to appear in Cabarrus County Superior Court Monday, Nov. 25. She was not given a bond.
