Landis Apartments fire under arson investigation

The Rowan County Fire Marshal’s Office is reportedly investigating a fire that occurred early Sunday morning as an arson.
A press release from the town of Landis indicated that at approximately 4:57 a.m., the Landis Fire Department along with other Rowan County fire departments responded to the Landis Apartments, located at 1355 Mount Moriah Church Road in reference to a possible structure fire at the top of a three-story building.
“The fire departments were able to extinguish the fire and no injuries were sustained from the incident,” the release said. “The Rowan County Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted and while on scene, confirmed that this was a suspected arson case. The Landis Police Department was then notified and arrived on scene.”
According to the release, the LPD requested the NC State Bureau of Investigations to respond and assist with the arson investigation. The LPD will retain the lead on the investigation.
“At this point in the investigation, the Landis Police Department believes this is an isolated incident and there is no further threat to the public,” the release said. “Please understand this site is still under investigation and details will be released as they become available and do not pose a threat to the integrity of the case.”
