Local Sons of American Revolution chapter honors heroes

The Salisbury chapter of the North Carolina Society of Sons of the American Revolution held its annual dinner at Lakeview Family Restaurant on Nov. 14.
At the dinner, local heroes were recognized and awarded for their heroism.
The following were recognized and awarded the Fire Safety Commendation Award: Baxter (Buddy) Miller of the Granite Quarry Fire Department; Captain Todd Bittle of the Landis Fire Department; Firefighter Aaron Russell of the Landis Fire Department; and Engineer Jacob Keever of the Landis Fire Department.
Police officer Austin Gribble of the Landis Police Department was awarded the Life Saving Medal.
Former Granite Quarry Police Officer and current Rowan County Sheriff’s Deputy Murphy Corl received the Heroism Medal. Retired trooper Bill Fortune, of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, received the Law Enforcement Commendation.
Bryan Stanton was awarded the Life Saving Medal; the award was received by his father David.
Chapter President Franklin Merrell led the meeting and presented the awards.
