College women’s basketball: SAC road loss for Catawba Indians

WISE, Va. — Catawba’s women’s basketball team struggled on Tuesday and was hammered 87-65 at UVA Wise.
Catawba (3-3, 1-2) forced 25 turners in the South Atlantic Conference game, but the Cavaliers shot so much better — 53 percent to 35 percent — that narrowly winning the turnover battle wasn’t going to be enough.
Catawba trailed 45-30 at halftime and shot 1-for-14 in the third quarter as the home team pulled ahead by 30 points.
Catawba scored 31 in the fourth quarter to make the final score more presentable.
Kaitlin Burger scored 22 for the Cavaliers (5-2, 2-1).
Nala Baker scored 26 for the Indians, while Maggie Helpman had 12 off the bench.
