MOUNT ULLA — A.L. Brown’s girls wrestling team won the West Rowan Thanksgiving Invite with 120 points.

West Rowan’s girls placed second with 94 points. R.J. Reynolds took third, with East Rowan fourth, Salisbury 10th and Carson 12th in a 13-team field.

A.L. Brown’s Amory Mendoza (100 pounds), Kahlen Kuddie (132) and Kate Vasquez (145) were weight class champions.

West’s Waylon Collins (126) and Hadley Perry (107) won weight classes, with Perry decisioning teammate Olyvia Brown in the final.

East’s Leah Edwards (114) and Jasmyne Brown (120) were weight class champs, with Edwards named Most Outstanding Wrestler.

Hough’s boys ruled the West Rowan Thanksgiving Invitational, amassing 205.5 points.

West Rowan was runner-up with 180.5 points. Carson was sixth, East Rowan was ninth, and Salisbury was 10th in a 14-team field.

West’s Stetson Collins was champion at 138 pounds. Andrew Taylor was runner-up at 157.

Carson’s Joseph Little won at 113 pounds.

East Rowan’s Chris McDonald was runner-up at 106 pounds.

 

HS volleybal

East Rowan’s Cameron Ostle and Allie Corl made All-Region.

A.L. Brown’s Elisa Landaverde and Hayden Pore made All-Region.

 

HS soccer

Carson forward Anthony Medina Beckham made the All-Region team.

Salisbury had three All-Region players in center mid Hines Busby, center back Jabatah Mohammed and keeper Finnegan Avery.

A.L. Brown defenders Adrian Carmona and Ismael Hernandez made All-Region.

 

High school football

Former Salisbury running back Jamal Rule was offered by Nebraska. Rule played at Charlotte Christian this season.

A.L. Brown lineman Jakeb Johnson was selected to play in the East-West All-Star Game.

 

High school indoor track

East Rowan’s Joshua Carlton (high jump), Kaleo Tolentino (pole vault) and Sadie Featherstone (55 meter hurdles) are state qualifiers.

 

Local golf

Eric Perlmutter recently made his first hole-in-one at Warrior on a long par 3.

He aced No. 16 with a 5-wood.

LEXINGTON — GARS members played at Sapona.

Low ‘A’ Flight player was Dickie Peeler with a net of 65.40. Peeler eagled the par-5 15th hole.

Low ‘B’ Flight player was Gene White with a net of 65.23.

Low ‘C’ Flight player was Steve Butner with a net of 62.16.

Low ‘D’ flight player was Chris Euart with a net of 62.83.

Larry Petrea shot a 76 to win low gross, while Butner won low net.

Super Senior was Andy Griffin with a net of 64.36.

 

College football

Georgia linebacker Jalon Walker (Salisbury) is one of five finalists for the Dick Butkus Award that goes to college football’s top linebacker.

Georgia Tech’s Zeek Biggers (West Rowan) has accepted an invitation to play in the East-West Shrine Game. That game will played in Texas on Jan. 30

 

College commits and signings

Carson pitcher/infielder Corbin Hales will play baseball at Methodist University and has been accepted into the  PGA Golf Management Program.

College volleyball

Lenoir-Rhyne, coached by South Rowan graduate Nicole Barringer, received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season. Lenoir-Rhyne was runner-up to Wingate in the SAC Tournament.
