Despite changes, ‘Tis the Season Spectacular remains big hit

SALISBURY — The ‘Tis the Season Spectacular holiday parade may have covered half the distance, as the town of Spencer held its own event, but parade-goers in Salisbury would not have been able to tell as the parade lasted close to two hours on Wednesday.
The parade committee, headed by co-chairs Shari Graham and Henrietta Henderlite along with 2025 Chair Ashley Currin, decided to focus on the Salisbury half of the parade earlier this year.
The change, however, did not lead to a decrease in attendance or parade entrants, as the parade counted over 25 professional floats in it, well over 100 different groups of paraders and parade attendees still lined Main Street in between Kerr and McCubbins streets.
The parade also showcased a bit of a different entry this year, as a fully-restored 1941 Boeing Stearman Model 75 biplane flown by Bill Lucey provided two flyovers at the start of the parade. The plane was originally a Navy plane before it ended its military career in 1945, after which it went unused before being bought in 2008 and restored in 2022.
The grand marshals for the parade were the family of Paul and Sue Fisher.
After Santa crossed the parade’s finish line, the event moved to the Bell Tower Green where the “Spectacular at the Park” included live music by the Tonez, food and drink trucks and a holiday photo booth. The park portion of the event also included the annual lighting of the city’s Christmas tree.
