College women’s basketball: Catawba wins at home

SALISBURY — Brooklin Ingram scored a career-high 21 points to lift Catawba’s women’s basketball to a 66-59 win against Lincoln Memorial on Saturday.

Ingram had never scored more than 12 in a game, but picked a great day for a breakout performance at Goodman Arena in front of 235 fans. Janiya Foskey also had a terrific game with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Catawba (4-3, 2-2) won for the eighth straight time against the Railsplitters (3-3, 2-1), a South Atlantic Conference rival.

LMU did not play very well after a long trip — 33-percent shooting and 21 turnovers — but stayed in the game with 19 offensive rebounds.

Alexa Smiddy led the visitors with 14 points.

Catawba shot 43 percent with 18 turnovers. The Indians helped themselves with 12-for-14 foul shooting. Ingram was 5-for-6 at the line.

Catawba was down five in the third quarter when Natalie Fuentes Lara made back-to-back shots that swung the momentum, and the Indians were able to win the fourth quarter.
