SALISBURY — The identities of two people who were shot to death about 8:40 a.m. Sunday have been released by Salisbury Police.
Shamarion Hooker, 20, and Skylar Mackey, 21, were pronounced dead Sunday morning after police and emergency crews arrived at the scene in the 1800 block of West 3rd Street near D Avenue.
The car the two had been traveling in had run off the roadway into a batch of heavy trees and brush.
Circumstances leading up to the shooting are still unknown, according to a release, but officers were able to determine one male subject fled from the shooting after the incident. That man has been located and is being interviewed by detectives.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call Salisbury police Lt. Casper at 704-638-5333 or 704-638-5211.
“The Salisbury police department extends its deepest condolences to the victim’s family during this difficult time,” police said in a release.
In addition, Salisbury police offered thanks to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office and the NC State Bureau of Investigations for their assistance, and to all community members who came forward with information related to the incident.
