GRANITE QUARRY — Just before 8:30 p.m. Monday night, callers reported to Granite Quarry police that an unknown person in dark clothing was walking, in the dark, along U.S. Hwy. 52 near Granite Knitwear.

When Granite Quarry police and Rowan County Sheriffs deputies arrived on the scene, they discovered the man had been hit by a passing vehicle. Witnesses described the car as a sedan, but said the driver never stopped.

Granite Quarry Fire and Rockwell Rural Fire were dispatched to address the man’s injuries, and he was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Granite Quarry Police Chief Todd Taylor said he understands the victim is expected to survive, but police are not releasing the man’s identity.

No charges are expected against the pedestrian, but police ask anyone who might have information on the driver of the car to contact Granite Quarry police at 704-279-2952.
