College men’s basketball: First loss for Blue Bears

AIKEN, S.C. — Livingstone’s men’s basketball team made it through November without a setback, but a six-game winning streak ended on Tuesday night at USC Aiken.

The Pacers topped the Blue Bears 86-69 in front of 413 fans at the Convocation Center.

King Ijeoma and Chandler Collins-Johnson scored 11 each for Livingstone (6-1).  Collins-Johnson got his 11 in seven minutes of action.

Jamal Cannady has been the key scorer for Livingstone most of the season, but he had an off night, shooting 1-for-8 from the floor.

Jalen McCoy, from Raleigh, scored 31 for USC Aiken, a program coached by former West Rowan standout Mark Vanderslice. McCoy is a tough matchup as a 6-foot-5, 220-pound guard.

USC Aiken shot 48 percent to the Blue Bears’ 42 percent, and the Pacers (5-2) enjoyed a 44-26 edge on the glass.

USC Aiken bounced back from a 100-94 loss to Claflin on Saturday. Jailen Williams (Carson) had 11 points for Claflin in that one.
