SPENCER – A fire that broke out about 3:15 a.m. Wednesday morning on South Yadkin Street has left two adults without a home.
Red Cross officials are working with the residents of 705 South Yadkin Street after their home was destroyed in the early morning blaze. Initial reports were that three were displaced, but Red Cross officials confirm it is two.
The fire caused a good portion of the roof to fall in, and firefighters fought the cold as well as the fire. A warming station was brought in for first responders working in temperatures below 20 degrees. Water used to fight the fire froze on the driveways and road and ice melt had to be put down so firefighters wouldn’t slide or fall as they worked.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, but no one was injured in the incident. One resident was treated for mild smoke inhalation at the scene. The home is considered a total loss, according to officials.
