CHINA GROVE — Lake Norman Charter’s girls basketball team held off a late charge by Carson on Wednesday in a South Piedmont Conference game.

Carson scored 21 in the fourth quarter, but the Knights won 51-39.

“Just played terrible for three quarters,” Carson head coach Chloe Monroe said. “We got down 22, but we decided to play in the fourth quarter and made a good run, just not enough to overcome the gap.”

Allie Martin led the Cougars (0-4, 0-1) with 17 points. Emma Carpenter had eight, and Julia Burleson seven.

Martin turned in quite a stat line, with nine rebounds, six assists and five steals.

Burleson and Laila Furr made 3-pointers, but Carson couldn’t overcome 28-percent shooting.

Lucy Courtney led the Knights (3-1, 1-0) with 14 points. Reece Long had 13, and Abby Courtney scored 11. The Knights made five 3-pointers.
