A report from the National Weather Service was issued on Thursday at 6:24 a.m. for fire danger until noon. The alert is for Greater Rutherford as well as Iredell, Cleveland, Lincoln, Gaston, Mecklenburg, Cabarrus and Union counties.

“Following the passage of a dry cold front later this morning, relative humidity will fall into the 20 to 30 percent range across the North Carolina Piedmont and foothills this afternoon. Winds will gust in the 20 to 25 mph range from the west and northwest throughout the day. Fine fuel moisture is expected to dry out quickly during the late morning and early afternoon. These conditions will be conducive for the quick formation and spread of wildfires. Based upon coordination with local land managers and forestry officials, a Fire Danger Statement is in effect for NC Forest Service District 12. Consult your local burn-permitting authority to determine whether you may burn outdoors. If you do burn, exercise extreme caution,” states the NWS.
