College women’s basketball: LC wins CIAA opener

SALISBURY — Livingstone’s women’s basketball team doesn’t have a good record, but a tough non-conference schedule prepared the Blue Bears for the CIAA.

Livingstone romped 76-55 against Bluefield State in the Blue Bears’ CIAA opener played at Trent Gym on Saturday.Livingstone led 60-29 after three three quarters.

Livingstone (2-6, 1-0) held Bluefield State to 26-percent shooting, and a 51-34 rebounding advantage meant that Bluefield State was frequently one-and-done on the offensive end.

Thalia Carter sparked the Blue Bears with 21 points. Breasia Colt got a start and contributed 12 points. Bria Griffith came off the bench for 14 points, and Morgan Kelson had nine points and 10 rebounds.

Icesis Nwafor (Salisbury) played well off the bench for Bluefield State. She had eight points and four rebounds in 16 minutes of action.
