DENTON — Dyzarious Carpenter was soaring and scored nine points in the first minute.

Carpenter was on pace for a 288-point night at that juncture, but that’s tough to maintain.

Carpenter’s energy got things started on Monday night, and North Rowan’s boys basketball team finally got their season under way with an easy 99-39 Central Carolina Conference mauling of South Davidson (0-6, 0-1).

With Carpenter dunking everything in sight — Emari Russell was tossing backboard lobs to him — North jumped on the overwhelmed home team 19-2 right away.

It was 57-15 at halftime. The second half was played with a continuously running clock.

Russell, a transfer from Central Cabarrus, had a successful debut with his new team, making slick passes and shooting the lights out. He finished with an impressive stat line of 23 points, seven rebounds, six assists and zero poor decisions.

Carpenter scored 19, while JP Polk had 15, and Carter Williams got 12.

Jo Jo Tarver dished out eight assists, as North took care of the ball while creating mayhem defensively against a smaller, slower squad.
