MOUNT ULLA — Rylee Hedrick scored 18 points as Carson beat West Rowan 47-34 on Tuesday for its first win of the season,
Julia Burleson (13) and Allie Martin (12) also were in double figures for the Cougars (1-5, 1-2) in the South Piedmont Conference game.
“We got the good start we needed and we were up 18 at halftime,” Carson head coach Chloe Monroe said. “We slowed down in the third quarter, but we picked it back up and we were able to finish.”
Sydney Smith scored 14 for the Falcons (0-5, 0-3). Jamelia Allen had 13.

CONCORD — South Rowan lost an exciting South Piedmont Conference game at Concord.
The Spiders (1-6, 1-1) pulled out a 41-38 decision for their first victory of the season.
Kynlee Dextraze scored 16 for the Raiders, while Day Pharr and Ella Morgan scored seven each.
Concord had some five-point leads early and led 20-19 at halftime.
South (3-3, 1-2) had a big run at the start of the third quarter, with Dextraze and Morgan scoring four points each. When Pharr made two free throws, the Raiders led 29-20 and appeared to be on their way to victory, but South went cold and Concord fought back, tying the game at 32-all in the early stages of the fourth quarter.
South fell behind 36-32, but got back to 36-all. Concord’s Kaylin Williams hit a clutch 3-pointer to break the tie, and Concord tacked on two free throws for a five-point lead that held up.
South did not make a 3-pointer, while Concord made two. Alani Smith-Rogers scored 12 for the Spiders. Williams had 10.

GRANITE QUARRY — East Rowan’s girls were able to slow down high-scoring Myajah Nix, but her Central Cabarrus teammates took over in a 57-35 victory.
Central (2-5, 2-1) got 17 points and 14 rebounds from Daniyah Burton, while Jahnee Duncan stuffed the stat sheet for 15 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. The Vikings, who started 0-5, have won their last two.
Kady Collins had one of the best games of her career with 16 points for the Mustangs (2-2, 1-2), but Mary Church was held to five points, and no one else could provide an offensive boost.
“Just didn’t show up for this one,” East head coach Bri Evans said.
Central’s lead was only 25-24 at halftime, but the Vikings dominated the second half, scoring 32 points to East’s 11.
