College men’s basketball: Robinson leads blowout of Carson-Newman

SALISBURY — Catawba’s men’s basketball team blew out Carson-Newman 91-63 in South Atlantic Conference action on Saturday.
Kris Robinson shot 6-for-8 on 3-pointers, scored 24 points and surpassed 1,000 points for his career.
Catawba got 14 points apiece from Ibra Athie and O’Mazeon Tinsley and 13 from Nick Walker.
Catawba (7-4, 5-3) shot an outrageous 62.7 percent from the field to whip the Eagles (9-4, 5-3) for the second time this season.
Jack Browder scored 18 for Carson-Newman, but made only one 3-pointer. The Indians did a great job defensively against the Eagles’ 3-point shooters. Carson-Newman was 7-for-29 on 3s and shot 42.3 percent from the field.
Catawba led 42-29 at halftime.
Besides shooting the ball extraordinary well, the Indians had the edge on the glass (33-24) and won the turnover battle 17-10.
