SALISBURY — Salisbury High honored the life and legacy of Cameron Stout on Friday.
It was a “White Out” night in the historic gym and many fans wore white in memory of Stout, who was 20 years old when he died in an auto accident in 2024.
Stout, a sweet-shooting 6-foot-2 swingman, was a terrific player during Bryan Withers’ coaching era at Salisbury. As a senior in the 2021-22 season, he averaged 19.8 points per game and was the Central Carolina Conference and Rowan County Player of the Year. Stout and sophomore Juke Harris were a devastating 1-2 punch for a 20-5 team.
Stout scored 979 points for the Hornets and is one of the top 15 all-time scorers for the program. Stout, who played in an era when COVID disrupted schedules needed one more game for 1,000, but it was not meant to be.
“I didn’t get to know Cameron Stout, but everything I’ve heard is that he was a tremendous young man,” Salisbury head coach Albert Perkins said. “I have gotten to meet his family. They are great people.”
Stout was honored earlier this season by Pfeiffer University.
As far as Friday’s game, Salisbury (4-3, 2-0) destroyed overmatched Central Carolina Conference opponent West Davidson 68-20 for its third straight victory.
It was 35-10 at the half. The Green Dragons (1-6, 0-1) scored only 12 points in the first three quarters. West Davidson had beaten East Rowan in a low-scoring game on Wednesday for its first victory.
Salisbury played everyone who had a uniform. Braylon Taylor scored 13 points, while Myles Smith and Tre Davis had 12 each. Macari House added 11.
It was a season-low for Smith, who sat down early. Like Smith, Taylor has scored in double figures in all seven games. Davis was in double digits for the fourth time, while House scored a season high.
SALISBURY scoring — Taylor 13, M. Smith 12, Davis 12, House 11, B. Smith 8, Brown 5, Epps 3, Hairston 2, Webb 2.
