High school girls basketball: North Hills sets records

SALISBURY — The North Hills varsity girls basketball team broke the school record for points in a game in an 85-25 romp against Woodlawn on Friday.
North Hills had 30 steals, 23 assists and 38 rebounds to swamp Woodlawn (0-2), a school in Davidson.
Reese Merrell had 23 points, 12 steals, nine assists and eight rebounds for the Eagles (5-3), who led 55-16 at halftime.
Merrell averages 17.6 points, 8 rebounds, 6.6 steals and 5 assists. She’s third in scoring among NCISAA 1A players and leads the conference in assists and double-doubles.

Ellison Dendy had 20 points and 10 steals on Friday. Ava Kibler scored 17, and Lydia Vriesema had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Aliyah Farmer, who starred at North Rowan High and played college ball at Mars Hill and UNC Pembroke, is the first-year coach of the Eagles.

North Hills will play Sheets Memorial (Lexington) at home on Monday.
