College men’s basketball: Cold night for Blue Bears

SALISBURY — The normally pleasant confines of New Trent Gym weren’t friendly for Livingstone’s men’s basketball team on Monday.
The Blue Bears had a forgettable night in a 69-53 loss to CIAA opponent Virginia Union.
Livingstone shot 29.3 percent from the field, made 4 of 21 3-pointers and was out-rebounded.
The Blue Bears (6-4) were even in the turnover battle, but Virginia Union (5-7) shot a respectable 40.7 percent with seven 3s and earned the road victory.
Jamal Cannady and Trey Minard scored 11 each to lead the Blue Bears.
DJ Mitchell scored 17 for the Panthers, and Jonathan King added 14.
