Five residents of a home on Homer Corriher Road in China Grove were victims of a robbery at gunpoint on Nov. 29, according to Rowan County Sheriff’s deputies.

Reports say Mark Luther Peacock, 56, arrived, with a passenger, at the victims’ residence in an older Silverado truck about 1 p.m. and told those in the home that he was the previous resident. He claimed that a television outside the house was his, and accused the current owner of breaking it. The primary resident informed Peacock that he had purchased the house with all the contents included.

At that point, Peacock pulled out a gun, cocked it and pointed it at the residents, demanding $2,000 in cash. Investigators say the group of five gathered all the cash they had on hand, which came to about $200. Peacock also took a Dewalt speaker and drill belonging to the victims, but stated it was not enough cash and threatened to shoot again. The primary owner offered to go to the ATM, and Peacock agreed. While the victim was at the bank, Peacock reportedly drove away, but returned when the homeowner came back. The victim had taken out an additional $800. Peacock made the his passenger get out and collect the money, then drove away.

At that point, the owners decided to sell the house, and did not initially report the incident out of fear. The new owners of the home convinced them to contact the sheriff’s office.

Deputies were able to determine that Peacock had borrowed the truck from a friend and confirm that he had been seen driving it the day of the robbery. Once they confirmed his identity, they were able to track him down at his China Grove home and arrest him on Dec. 12, charging him with robbery with firearms or other dangerous weapons. He was held on a $50,000 bond.
