Kannapolis police department announces promotions

KANNAPOLIS — Two leadership promotions have been announced by Kannapolis Police Chief Terry Spry. Christopher Fisher has been promoted to the rank of captain and Travis Kiser promoted to the rank of lieutenant.
Fisher joined the department as a patrol officer in 2006. He was promoted to sergeant in 2014 and supervised the felony investigations unit. He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant in 2019.
He is the team leader of the special response team, a field training officer, a general instructor and member of the honor guard. Fisher, along with the senior leadership of the police department, achieved the Trilogy Award from FBI-LEEDA earlier this year.
Fisher has been awarded the Advanced Law Enforcement Certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission. He was presented with the outstanding student award in his basic law enforcement training class in 2006, received an individual police commendation in 2009, and was selected as the 2013 Rowan Optimist Officer of the Year. He is a graduate of Northwest Cabarrus High School.
Kiser joined the department in 2009. He served as a patrol officer until his assignment as an investigator in 2016. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2019. He has earned the master police officer designation, is a member of the special response team, serves as a general instructor, and a field training officer.
Among his commendations, Kiser was the 2012 recipient of VFW Post 8989’s Officer of the Year award, the 2013 recipient of the agency’s physical fitness award for the 30-39 age group, the 2018 recipient of the Cannon Memorial Masonic Lodge Community Steward award and was the recipient of the Roger Dale Carter Memorial Service award in 2019.
Travis holds an advanced law enforcement certificate from the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. He is a graduate of Northwest Cabarrus High School and obtained his associates degree in electrical technology from Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.
He and his wife, Brooke, have a son, Landon, and a daughter, Reagan. He is the son of Linda Kiser of Concord and the late Lt. Terry Kiser who retired from the Kannapolis Police Department.
