SALISBURY — The Dale’s Sporting Goods Sam Moir Christmas Classic was good for South Rowan’s girls basketball team.
The Raiders entered the event running on fumes after five straight losses, three of them blowouts and two that hurt even worse than blowouts because they slipped through their fingers.
But the Raiders (4-7) got back on track in the tournament, with a close loss to a solid Central Davidson team on Thursday and a 40-point win on Friday when fifth-seeded South romped 62-22 at Catawba College against eighth-seeded West Rowan.
Kynlee Dextraze tied her career high with 24 points against the Falcons (0-9).
“She dominated inside and she also got some transition points,” South coach Alex Allen said.
Meghan Eagle, who doesn’t take a lot of shots, had a career game with 10 points.
South got Day Pharr back from an injury for the tournament and she also contributed 10 points.
Ella Morgan, who had two good games in the tournament, made two 3-pointers.
South led by 10 after a competitive first half, but pulled away with a 22-5 edge in the third quarter and held West to one point in the fourth.
West had lost 55-51 at South earlier in the season, but couldn’t stay with the Raiders this time.
Sydney Smith (10) and Jamelia Allen (9) accounted for 19 of West’s 22 points.
“A win was much needed, and we got it,” Coach Allen said.

WEST — Smith 10, Allen 9, J. Carter 2, Everhart 1.
