Friday games …

SALISBURY — Salisbury shot 3-for-9 on free throws, so there’s still plenty of room for improvement, but the Hornets were able to cruise to a 50-22 Central Carolina Conference win against East Davidson.

Salisbury’s defense suffocated the Golden Eagles (3-10, 1-2), who had four single-digit quarters.

Gabbi Fatovic and Torese Evans scored 12 each for the Hornets (7-4, 3-0), who made five 3-pointers and kept pace with Lexington in the CCC.

Tristian Myers made a 3-pointer early as the Hornets jumped ahead 10-2.

Fatovic scored seven in the second quarter as Salisbury went ahead 27-13.

Evans had a 3-pointer in the third quarter, and Fatovic and Mariana Zapata connected from long range in the fourth.

East Davidson     6   7   5   4     — 22

Salisbury            12   15  11  12   — 50

SHS scoring — Fatovic 12, Evans 12, McNeely 8, Myers 8, Fomond 5, Zapata 3, Spruill 2.

CONCORD — Northwest Cabarrus jumped out to a 21-0 lead and crushed West Rowan 66-18 in a South Piedmont Conference game.

Katie Hoffner made a layup for the Falcons’ first points with 2:31 left in the first quarter. Jayden Carter chased down an airball that was headed out of bounds and saved the ball to Hoffner, who laid it in.

That bucket triggered a run by West, as the Trojans had gone to their bench after building that early lead. Jameila Allen got a steal and a layup right after Hoffner’s hoop, and the Falcons (0-10, 0-6) closed the first quarter on a 10-2 run to get back to 23-10.

Then West scored the first two of the second quarter for 23-12, but that’s where the fun ended for the visitors. Mackenzie Ortscheid made a 3-pointer to close the first half, and the Trojans (10-2, 5-0) took a 40-14 lead to the break.

Ortscheid made another 3-pointer for a 54-14 lead — and a running clock — with 5:05 left in the third quarter. Northwest outscored the Falcons 18-1 in the third quarter.

West made only one field goal in the second half. That was a layup off an inbounds play by Allen with 37 seconds left.

West played without Sydney Smith.

Ortscheid scored 20 for the Trojans. Ava Ibanez had 15, while Aminah Lyles had 14. Marisa Furner only scored three, but caused some problems for West with her shot-blocking.

West Rowan    10    4    1    3   — 18

NW Cabarrus  23   17   18  8   — 66

WEST scoring — Allen 8, McConnaughey 4, Carter 3, Hoffner 2, Sawyer 1.

CHINA GROVE — North Rowan stopped a five-game losing streak with a 43-27 win at Carson.

The Cavaliers (2-6) jumped ahead with a 17-point first quarter and got double-figure scoring from Dasia Elder (13), Kanya Cowan (11) and Krisstyle Stockton (10).

That was a season-high for Cowan. Elder has scored in double figures four straight games.

Zakiya Oglesby had eight rebounds for the Cavaliers.

Elder, Cowan and Allanah McArthur made 3-pointers in the second quarter as North added to its lead.

North held Carson scoreless in the fourth quarter.

“We just really struggled to score,” Carson coach Chloe Monroe said.

Carson got nine points each from Allie Martin and Julia Burleson.

Carson has scored in the 20s in its last three games, but is getting healthier. Rylee Hedrick played for the first time in a while after having shoulder issues. Brooklyn McBride has been cleared to play following knee surgery and could provide a boost for the Cougars.

NORTH — Elder 13, Cowan 11, Stockton 10. McArthur 5, Oglesby 2, King 2.

CARSON — Burleson 9, Martin 9, Carpenter 4, Sheets 3, Hedrick 2.

HARRISBURG — London Gray scored 15 points for A.L. Brown (4-7, 0-1) in a 66-21 Greater Metro Conference loss at Hickory Ridge (9-4, 2-0).
