SALISBURY — The Rowan County Board of Commissioners will receive the annual financial report for the county during the upcoming meeting on Monday.

The report will come from representatives of the county’s contracted auditing company, Martin Starnes, and will show the county’s financial positions, both income and expenditures, overall and through the various departments and branches of the county government for the past year. As part of the state’s required auditing process, auditors are required to point out “financial performance indicators of concern,” or red flags in the financial reports that the county would need to outline a plan to address in a letter to the N.C. Department of the State Treasurer.

Last year, the county did not have one indicator of concern, which was that the county’s water fund was operating at a minor net loss. That issue was attributed to the fact that the county’s water system only serviced a small area along Long Ferry Road, it was difficult for income from that area to match the expenses.

The meeting is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Monday and will be held at the Rowan County Administration Building located at 130 W. Innes St. in Salisbury. The other agenda items that will be discussed include:

  • The commissioners will issue a proclamation honoring the life and legacy of Salisbury Mayor Karen Alexander, who died on Sunday, Dec. 29.
  • The commissioners will receive an update on the county’s opioid settlement fund. Rowan County Public Health Director Alyssa Harris will give a presentation regarding the amount of funding received, how it is used and what impact that spending has had in the community.
