Traffic stop leads to police-involved shooting in Kannapolis

KANNAPOLIS — An officer-involved shooting in Kannapolis following a traffic stop resulted in one person being taken to the hospital late Saturday night, according to officials.
Kannpolis police stopped a car near 251 North Cannon Boulevard about 10:30 p.m., and during the stop, determined an occupant of the car was wanted on outstanding warrants.
During that stop, an occupant of the vehicle was injured by gunfire. The occupant has been taken to Atrium Hospital – Cabarrus. The police officers and the other occupants in the vehicle were not injured. No explanation of how or why shots were fired, or any of the identities of the injured party or the officers have been released at this time.
The officers involved with this incident have been placed on administrative leave and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has been requested to investigate the shooting, both of which are standard procedures.
