College men’s basketball: Hot second half carries Vikings past Livingstone

ELIZABETH CITY — Livingstone’s men’s basketball team took a CIAA road loss on Monday at Elizabeth City State’s Vaughan Center.
The Vikings enjoyed a substantial home-court advantage with 538 fans and beat the Blue Bears 82-73.
Livingstone (8-6, 1-4) led 34-29 at the half, but that lead melted as the Viking shot the lights out in a torrid second half. Elizabeth City State shot 57 percent after the break and scored 53 points.
Jaquantae Harris scored 20 to lead five Vikings (8-5, 2-3) in double figures.
Jamal Cannady scored 17 for the Blue Bears. Paul Tako added 10. Livingstone got points from 13 different players.
Livingstone shot 35 percent for the game. That hot second half brought ECSU up to 48.5 percent shooting for the game.
Turnovers and rebounds were very even, but Livingstone couldn’t overcome the difference in shooting accuracy.
