College women’s basketball: Vikings outscore Livingstone

ELIZABETH CITY — Livingstone women’s basketball team scored 65 points in the second half on Monday — and lost.
That’s not easy to do, but the Blue Bears struggled mightily in the first half and lost to CIAA opponent Elizabeth City State 92-85 in front of 367 fans in the Vaughan Center.
Livingstone shot 3-for-20, including 0-for-8 from the 3-point line, in the second quarter and dug a 46-20 halftime hole against the Vikings, who never trailed in the game.
After an even third quarter, the Blue Bears (4-10, 2-3) put up 38 points in a frantic fourth quarter to make it close.
Livingstone had a 26-14 advantage in the turnover battle, but the Vikings (6-7, 3-2) won on the boards and had a sizzling shooting night with 54 percent from the field and eight 3-pointers.
Bria Griffith had a tremendous game for the Blue Bears off the bench, scoring 24 on 9-for-14 shooting and 6-for-6 at the foul line.
Samiyah Briggs scored 20. Morgan Kelson had 14 points, 12 rebounds and six steals.
Elizabeth City State was balanced and put five in double figures.
