A deeply ironic tragedy

Donald Trump’s inauguration, arriving on the heels of Jimmy Carter’s death, is a deeply ironic tragedy. Carter embodied empathy, servant leadership, optimism and many other positive traits that the office of the presidency requires. Trump embodies criminality, self-aggrandizement, pessimism and a devastating, dystopian misunderstanding of the presidency. The contrast in character of these two presidents could not be more self-evident.
