A National Day of Mourning was declared by President Joe Biden for Thursday, Jan. 9, to honor former President Jimmy Carter, who died last month.

Carter, the 39th U.S. president, died on Dec. 29, in his hometown of Plains, Georgia, after a 22-month hospice stay. The National Day of Mourning will coincide with his state funeral at Washington National Cathedral. As a result, all federal offices will be closed in observance of the National Day of Mourning. That includes the U.S. Post Office. Subscribers that receive print editions in the mail will not receive a Salisbury Post until Friday. However, the newspaper’s full electronic edition will be available at salisburypost.com on its normal schedule.
