WINGATE — College players are supposed to make their free throws, but no one makes all of them, right?

Well, Wingate’s women’s basketball team did make them all on Wednesday — 23 attempts, 23 makes — 100 percent. That unusual accuracy from 15 feet made the difference in a 69-63 South Atlantic Conference victory over Catawba.

Catawba was 9-for-11 on free throws and made it a close game because mostly Nala Baker made six 3-pointers and scored 24 points. Saniya Wilson came off the bench to score 14.

Catawba just didn’t have the kind of game it needed to beat one of the SAC’s top teams on the road. Janiya Foskey was held to seven points, and the Indians shot 37.7 percent while committing 20 turnovers.

Wingate’s home-court advantage wasn’t huge, as only 133 fans saw the game in Cuddy Arena.

No one scored more than 14 for Wingate, but the Bulldogs put five in double figures.

Wingate (10-4, 9-1) held a comfortable  45-29 lead at halftime, but Catawba outscored the Bulldogs by 10 in the second half.
