Wednesday games …

CHINA GROVE — Carson’s girls basketball team got its third win on Wednesday.

The Cougars won 42-37 in overtime in a non-conference game against Kings Mountain (0-13).

Carson (3-11) needed it after a painful 54-52 loss to Concord on Tuesday.

“It took us a while to get going, but we did it when it counted tonight,” Carson head coach Chloe Monroe said. “We pulled it out.”

Carson scored only eight points in the first half, but had an outstanding game at the foul line. Allie Martin was 11-for-12 on free throws for most of her 17 points.

Rylee Hedrick was 4-for-4 at the line, all in overtime, and scored 10. Emily Guiton made a 3-pointer in the third quarter.

It was 31-all at the end of regulation.

Carson got huge 3-pointers in the overtime period from Julia Burleson and Caylee Sheets. Neither had scored in regulation.

Carson plays South Rowan on Thursday in a game that has been moved up due to the weather forecast. That means three games in three days for the Cougars against a rested South team that hasn’t played yet this week.

CARSON scoring — Martin 17, Hedrick 10, Guiton 5, Sheets 3, Burleson 3, Benfield 2, McBride 2.
