SALISBURY — “You think I don’t know what’s going on. I hear gossip, I hear rumors and I won’t listen to that.”

But the rumor is out and you do not want to miss this hilarious, fast-paced cast whirl around the stage trying to hide, lie and cheat their way out of a really funny situation.

Lee Street theatre is opening the Neil Simon comedy classic “RUMORS” this Friday. At a large, tastefully-appointed Sneden’s Landing townhouse, the deputy mayor of New York has just shot himself. Though it’s only a flesh wound, Charlie Brock’s self-inflicted injury sets off a series of events causing four couples to experience a severe attack of farce. As their 10th wedding anniversary party commences, the first of the guests arrive and scramble to get “the story” straight before the other guests show up. As the confusions and miscommunications mount, the evening spins off into a really great time.

“I am so lucky to have such a talented cast that understands the art of bringing a comedy like ‘Rumors’ to the stage,” explained production director Sharon Sigler. “Comedy is hard work and this incredible cast makes it look easy. Comedy is hard work, and it’s all about…wait for it…timing. This cast understood that immediately. I’m still laughing at the madcap fun as we open, and you will too.”

This local cast includes the hilarious talents of Rebecca White, Matthew White, Raquel Oden, Bradley Moore, Chris Eller, Jenny Hubbard, Jaylyn Powell, Jonathan E. C. Wallace, Garrett Jennings and Thomas Gushlaw.

“RUMORS” includes direction by Sigler, production design by Rod Oden, costume design by Jacquelyn Loy, technical direction by Kelly Sandoval and stage management by Kenzie Cloninger.
